Lost and Found

Lost and Found: We have quite a collection of coats and sweaters in our lost and found. Please take a moment before winter break to collect any items that belong to your child. It is always helpful to have your students' name on their clothing items, lunch boxes, backpacks, water bottles, etc. to ensure if items are misplaced they are returned.

Principals Corner

McKenny Families,

As we close out 2023, I wanted to use my space in this month’s Hawk Talk to reflect on some highlights of the school year so far.

Annie Jr: - A Huge thank you to our PTO for bringing in the Pacific Northwest Theater Company to work with our students to put on an amazing musical performance. This opportunity was made available to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, tuition free, due to a generous grant from the Ocean Spray Company. But grants don’t just fall into our laps. They take time and effort to seek out and complete the application process. Thank you to Collette Paulson for securing the funding to make this happen. Also, thank you to all parents who donated their time and talents to support the experience through help with supervision, concessions, ticket sales and set up. The students were amazing and I know the experience has sparked a lot of interest in future theater opportunities.

The Return of the Golden Hawk: We have decided to reinstitute a weekly recognition program called Golden Hawk. In short, every student will have an opportunity to be recognized at school in the classroom with a Golden Hawk Award. On Fridays, I go into each classroom to talk about an individual student and all of the qualities that make them special. All students can show Golden Hawk characteristics by being Kind, being Safe, and showing Responsibility in a variety of ways. We also work to highlight individual skills and personality traits that students show both in and out of school. It is a wonderful program which supports a positive, welcoming environment and celebrates students’ individuality.

Other Highlights Include: Trunk or Treat, Read-a-thon, the Veterans Day Assembly put on by our friends from WMS, assemblies, and Field Trips!

These are all wonderful events and activities. However, my favorite things happen every day. The students cause me to smile and laugh regularly with their kind words and their funny comments. What a joy it is to be a part of this community. Thank you for sharing your children with us each day.

Sincerely,

Michael Havens
