Vision & Hearing Screenings – Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers for Vision and Hearing Screenings at McKenny conducted by the Lion’s Club. It is on Thursday, January 10th beginning at 9:00am. This is for grades K, 1, 2, 3, and 5. Please call Britney in the office to volunteer. Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Attendance Matters!

Research shows that consistent, on-time attendance in elementary school creates a lifelong pattern of punctuality and investment all throughout a student's school career and later for on the job. As a parent or guardian, please do everything you can to be certain your student(s) arrives on time and ready-to-learn each day. The best arrival time each morning is between 8:45 and 8:55 (There is no supervision before 8:45.)

Sending Money to School

Make sure the check or envelope is clearly marked with your child’s name, teacher’s name, amount (if cash) and indicate what the money is for (field trip, lunch, etc.) so that we can direct the check or cash to the correct person. Please send the exact amount. The office does not have petty cash to make change.

Planned Absence Request Form

Remember, if you are going on vacation or on a trip, please complete a Planned Absence Request form. These forms are available in the office or call us and we will send one home with your student.

PTO

PTO Website – www.mckennypto.org

Are you interested in knowing who the parent representatives are for your child’s classroom?  Would you like to know how to get involved at McKenny?  Have you been trying to find more information about movie night or other planned events?  We encourage you to bookmark the PTO website www.mckennypto.org to stay up to date!

PTO Volunteer Appreciation

Congratulations to Tiffany Paynter and Janice Houghton who were each randomly selected to win a $15 Starbucks gift card for completing their PTO Volunteer Form.  The PTO and school community truly appreciates all volunteer efforts.  If you haven’t had a chance to sign up.  It’s never too late to turn in your form or fill out the form on our website at http://www.mckennypto.org/how-you-can-help.html.  We look forward to working with all of you this school year!

Value Village (donation drive)

We already have lots of great parent helpers to make our Value Village Donation Drive a great success!  If you cleaned out clutter since the kids returned to school or you’ve got some old clothing, books, household items around, gather them up and donate them at the Lacey Value Village location on Saturday, October 6th from 10-1pm.  McKenny will earn funds based on the weight of the items donated.  If participants are unable to drop items off at that time, there will be volunteers at the school October 5th before/after the first movie night to collect donations.

WA State Combined Fund Drive

We would like to encourage the many State employees who work at McKenny and who have children that are students at McKenny, to contribute to the WA State Combined Fund Drive to support McKenny Elementary!!  The WA State CFD kicks off for state employees in October.  The front page of the PTO Website has a link with instructions on how to set up a donation for McKenny.  Participants will need both the McKenny CFD charity number (which is 1482538) as well as their employee number (found on payroll documents) in order to set up either a monthly or a one time donation.

Box Tops

The first Box Top collection will be October 19th!  Start collecting and send them in with your child in a zip lock bag or envelope with your teacher’s name.  The class that collects the most box tops will have an ice cream treat and the top three classes will get extra recess time!!

A quick reminder….

If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to sign up for the PTO membership by turning in your PTO directory form and $12 payment to the front office as soon as possible.  If you signed up online, you will also need to submit payment at this time.  Checks can be made payable to McKenny PTO.  The directory is a wonderful way to connect with fellow parents, students and staff.

Movie Night

Our first movie night of the school year will be Friday, October 5th and will feature Paddington 2.  Movie Night is $5 for the first student and $4 for each additional student.  Price includes an intermission popcorn, snack and drink.

Supervision is provided – but we would love some company!  Parents who stay to help supervise earn a coupon for free admission to an upcoming Movie Night.

PTO Fall Social - Glow Party

The Fall Social is just around the corner!!  Our theme is GLOW PARTY!  Please join us for our annual, free, community building  event on Friday, October 26th.  More information will be sent home with students at a later date.  .
