Kindergarten WA Kids Conferences
WA Kids Conferences are held September 6th, 7th and 8th for our kindergarten families! These 30 minute conferences are intended for both parent/guardian and student to attend. Families can register using Skyward Family Access starting August 28th through September 1st.
Volunteer Opportunities
Are you interested in volunteering this school year? Visit the district’s volunteer website for additional information. Please be sure to complete the volunteer application if you have not already done so. This application must be completed yearly.

Monday September 11th PTO Meet & Greet:

Tuesday September 12th 6:30-8pm PTO Meeting:
Join us in the McKenny Library (or via Zoom) for our first PTO meeting of the year! If there was a meeting to go to, this is the one! We will be voting to approve our new calendar as well as our budget. You will also get to hear an update from our principal, Mr. Havens, and get the latest information from the PTO. We hope to see you there
Thursday September 21st at 4:30 Hawk Hangout at LBA Park:
Head to LBA Park to meet up with other families from McKenny. This is a wonderful time for kids to play and for adults to chat and connect. *This is not a drop off event.
Monday September 25th Theater Education Program:
Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families! Do you have an aspiring actor in your life? The PTO is thrilled to offer, in collaboration with Pacific Northwest Theater, the theater education program for the spectacular production of Annie Jr! Get ready to embark on this creative journey as the PNW Theater is dedicated to fostering your student’s passion for the performing arts.
Rehearsals will begin Monday September 25th and they will be daily after school until 5:00 pm. Performances will be on Friday October 20th and Saturday Oct 21st. A limited number of spots will be available to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students of McKenny Elementary so stay tuned for further details!

Principal's Corner
Hello McKenny Families!
I very much hope that you have been enjoying this summer and the beautiful weather that has come our way. At the school, we are busy gearing up for the 2023-24 school year and are really excited to begin welcoming students and families back to the building. This Hawk Talk Newsletter contains all of the important dates, times and information for upcoming events and activities.
New Staff Members:
Madelyn Olson is our new school counselor. Madelyn joins our team after serving as an elementary school counselor in the Hoquiam School District. While interviewing with our team, Madelyn’s enthusiasm for working with students definitely shone through and her references gave her glowing recommendations. We are very excited to have her as a part of our team.
Staff Changes:
There is always shifting during July and August, but 2023 has seen a little less movement than usual. Mr. Sjoboen will be teaching 3rd grade this year, moving into the vacancy created when Mrs. Paulsen left to pursue retirement. Mrs. Plott has moved to a position in another organization and we look forward to hiring another amazing paraeducator to take her place.
I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the students and families at our Back to School Meet and Greet/Supply Drop-off on September 5. Our PTO will be providing Otter Pops and this will be one of our first opportunities to welcome new families and build new relationships.
