Let's Get Reading! Read-A-Thon starts TOMORROW

What is Read-A-Thon? A fun annual event that inspires a love of reading while raising funds for the McKenny Elementary PTO.

When is Read-a-Thon? Saturday, Oct 17 through Friday, Oct 30.

STEP 1: Register NOW at https://bit.ly/2026read

        - Go to “Add Participant” to create a student page

STEP 2: Share your student’s page! 

       - Once registered, 99Pledges will email you a link with your student’s personal donation page

        - All funds raised go toward enhancing school programs and resources at McKenny Elementary (like bringing back PNW Theater in the spring!)

STEP 3: Get reading! 

      - Track minutes via your student's Management Page (second link in email from 99Pledges) 

STEP 4: WIN PRIZES just for reading! 

       - Be sure to track minutes throughout the event! 

       - Minutes can be tracked starting Saturday, Oct 17 and must be submitted by midnight on Friday, Oct 30 to be eligible for prizes 

What counts as "reading"? Any time, outside of school hours, that your student spends:

        - Reading to themselves

        - Reading to someone else

        - Having someone read to them

        - Listening to an audiobook

        - Encourage your student to fall in love with reading! 

        - Support our school: All funds raised will be used to host community events at McKenny, support McKenny teachers and staff, and enhance the McKenny student experience

        - Win prizes!

Can my student participate and receive prizes without fundraising? Absolutely! While Read-a-Thon is an important fundraiser that supports programming and resources at McKenny Elementary, the primary goal of the program is to encourage McKenny students to read. Reading is a vital skill that improves overall student performance in so many ways. By providing an incentive for students to read at home early in the school year, the McKenny PTO hopes to help McKenny students build good daily reading habits and help them fall in love with the magic of reading.  

         - Log minutes read by midnight on October 30th and win:

                - 60 minutes - a notebook and pen 
                - 250 minutes - a reading timer
                - 500 minutes - a squishy fidget 
                - 1000 minutes - a booklight
                - 1500 minutes - a cozy blanket
                - 2500 minutes - a stuffy
Yes, your student can win every one of those prizes if they read 2500 minutes (or more!) during the event! Prizes will be passed out M, W, F throughout the event so log daily!

       - The classroom that reads the most minutes WINS a glowstick party in the gym (one winner K-2nd and and one winner 3rd-5th)

School-wide reward: Back by popular demand, if we reach our $7000 fundraising goal:

         - The top K–2nd reader will pie Ms. Swedberg at K–2nd lunch

         - The top 3rd–5th reader will pie Mr. Havens at 3rd–5th lunch
