Information will also be published to major television and radio stations.

If two-hour late start there will be no a.m. preschool,  and no before-school activities.  There will be no morning Y-Care if two-hour late start and no Y-Care if school is closed. Breakfast and lunch will be served during two-hour late start.

Weather conditions may cause bus routes to be modified. If this occurs the district office will announce the use of “snow routes” or “emergency routes.”

News from Our PTO:

Extra Fun PTO Meeting on December 7th

Our next monthly meeting is on the FIRST Tuesday of the month (December 7th) from 6:30-8:00 in the McKenny library. We will spend the first 20 minutes hearing an update from Mr. Havens and sharing some brief PTO updates, but the rest will be spent playing Bunco and enjoying time together. Whether you've been to many meetings or none, we'd LOVE to see you there and get to know you better!

Combined Fund Drive

Did you know that through the generosity of just 4 MCKENNY FAMILIES in 2021, McKenny PTO raised just over $325 through the State of WA Combined Fund Drive? It would be tremendous to see that number of contributions increase during this CFD season which runs now through December 10th!

You can login and search for "McKenny" or by our charity code of 1482538 online here:

Talent Show

Our Second Annual Zoom Talent Show is coming up January 25th. That means it is time to start thinking about recording your child's talent to share. This can be a piece of artwork, a sports skill, singing, dancing, instrument playing, magic tricks, and more. Videos must be kept to one minute or less. More details will be going home in a flyer mid-December.

Read-A-Thon Results

Thank you again to everyone who participated in our Read-A-Thon! Our McKenny Hawks are super readers that read over 63,000 minutes (over 1000 hours) and raised $6,700! We're so proud! Check out our website ( to see a photo of Mr. Havens dressed as a unicorn in celebration of meeting our goal!

Principal's Corner

Dear McKenny Families,

Every single school day of the year, I know that I am fortunate to be a part of our community at McKenny. However, I don’t always take the time to express my gratitude to students, staff and families. During this season of thankfulness and celebration, I want to take a moment to share some appreciation.

To our staff: Thank you for your creativity and dedication. Your efforts to provide a safe learning environment where students can express themselves, challenge themselves, and grow daily as students and as young people are amazing and appreciated. You make learning exciting and authentic and you model kindness and acceptance.

To our families: Thank you for the support you have given to our teachers and staff. I appreciate the ways in which you communicate with us, and the ways in which you advocate for, and support, your students. But thank you most of all for trusting us with your children each day. We are truly fortunate to partner with you.

To our students: Thank you for making my days better every moment you are here. Thank you for your smiles, your laughter and your jokes. Thank you for your effort and hard work each and every day. But most of all, thank you for the ways that you spread kindness to others through your actions and your words.

I truly feel so lucky to be principal at McKenny.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Attendance Matters

Families remember that if your child/children are feeling sick please keep them home. If you have a positive COVID case in the home do not send your child/children to school and contact the school nurse as soon as possible. The Thurston County COVID Flowcharts can be found here.
