Lost and Found will be donated on Friday, December 20th to the Little Red Schoolhouse.

McKenny to Assist OHS in the Annual Canned Food Drive!
Starting Thursday, November 25th through Friday, December 13th we will be helping Olympia High School with their annual Canned Food Drive.  The food drive will support our local Thurston County Food Bank.  Please help by donating cans and other non-perishable foods.

Lost and Found

Our racks are full, please check our lost and found for any missing items.  We will be donating the left over items to The Little Red School House during winter vacation.  Please write your student’s name on his or her coat.  We can return any lost coat to the correct student if their name is visible.

Dress for the Weather

As the weather gets cold and wet, it makes sense the students will come to school with multiple layers of clothing. In order to ensure your students, come home with the same clothes they arrived in, please make sure all coats, hoodies, gloves and hats are labeled with student names. If you provide a name, we will make sure to get clothing back to your children if they accidentally leave it behind.  With your help we could eliminate the need for a Lost and Found at school.

Let's Be Careful Out There

The days are growing shorter which means that it’s a good time to remind students, parents and community members to exercise extra caution in and around school zones, bus stops and roads that are frequently used by walkers and bikers. Reflective clothing is a good idea, especially for those students who walk or bike to school in the morning when it is dark.

Inclement Weather Conditions

Please keep the following information readily available in case you need to check if school has been cancelled or delayed due to weather or other emergency conditions.  Radio:  KGY 1240 AM or 96.9 FM; KMAS 1030 AM; KXXO 96.1 FM; and KAOS 89.3 FM.  Internet:  http://osd.wednet.edu.  Parents, please keep in mind that there is no student supervision when school starts late or is cancelled.  Web or media alerts will inform families if emergency/snow bus routes are being used.  For more information access the EMERGENCY INFORMATION link on the OSD home page at http://osd.wednet.edu.

Running Club

Brrr…. it’s cold but kids are still running! We have 36 children that have run 5 miles this year.  Two of our students are really going for it. Mila has run 40 miles and Landon has run 65 miles. Keep it up. Be sure to check the running wall by the gym to see all of our amazing runners. Your friendly Running Club Coordinator. Ms. Chavez

Directory

The PTO student directories should be coming home very soon – perhaps before you read this Hawk Talk.

Apple Tree Productions

McKenny PTO will again be hosting Apple Tree Productions this winter for a great theater experience for many students and a fun show for all.  We are in need of a co-chair to help coordinate logistics and volunteer coverage during weekly rehearsals and for performances.  Note that you will not need to be on-site for all activities.  If you have an interest in supporting student learning through theater and can offer some of your time to make this year’s production successful, please email Michel Nelson, PTO Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected].  Thank you!!

Classroom Parent Reps are Needed

Classroom parent reps are needed for the following teachers:  Bailey, Shaffer, Stanley, Johnson and Turpen.  Parent reps assist teachers, secure field trip volunteers and coordinate parent involvement in the Spring Carnival.  If you have a child in one of these classrooms and are available to help, please email Michel Nelson, PTO Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected]. Thank you!

Thank you Mindy Swedberg for bringing the first Game Night and Bingo for Books to McKenny this year!
