McKenny to Assist OHS in the Annual Canned Food Drive!
Starting Thursday, November 25th through Friday, December 13th we will be helping Olympia High School with their annual Canned Food Drive.  The food drive will support our local Thurston County Food Bank.  Please help by donating cans and other non-perishable foods

Lost and Found

Our racks are full, please check our lost and found for any missing items.  We will be donating the left over items to The Little Red School House during winter vacation.  Please write your student’s name on his or her coat.  We can return any lost coat to the correct student if their name is visible.

Dress for the Weather

As the weather gets cold and wet, it makes sense the students will come to school with multiple layers of clothing. In order to ensure your students, come home with the same clothes they arrived in, please make sure all coats, hoodies, gloves and hats are labeled with student names. If you provide a name, we will make sure to get clothing back to your children if they accidentally leave it behind.  With your help we could eliminate the need for a Lost and Found at school.

Let's Be Careful Out There

The days are growing shorter which means that it’s a good time to remind students, parents and community members to exercise extra caution in and around school zones, bus stops and roads that are frequently used by walkers and bikers. Reflective clothing is a good idea, especially for those students who walk or bike to school in the morning when it is dark.

Inclement Weather Conditions

Please keep the following information readily available in case you need to check if school has been cancelled or delayed due to weather or other emergency conditions.  Radio:  KGY 1240 AM or 96.9 FM; KMAS 1030 AM; KXXO 96.1 FM; and KAOS 89.3 FM.  Internet:  Parents, please keep in mind that there is no student supervision when school starts late or is cancelled.  Web or media alerts will inform families if emergency/snow bus routes are being used.  For more information access the EMERGENCY INFORMATION link on the OSD home page at

PTO Shoparoo Facebook Drawing

Congratulations to Jennifer Lobe for winning our Facebook contest to get more families using the Shoparoo App! Thank you to all who participated and to all who use the App on a regular basis!

PTO Hawk’s Harvest

On October 18th, the Hawk’s Harvest, gathered the McKenny community for a wild night of pumpkin decorating, games, and activities. This PTO event almost didn’t happen! It was added to the calendar only one month prior and it took many people to create this successful event! Thank you to the Harvest committee; Vanessa Centeno, Julian Eyer, Kamy Durocher, Sarah Lankford, Jasmine Sprauer, Janelle Cromwell, and their families for working tirelessly to bring the vision to life.  Thank you to the PTO board members, McKenny administration and teachers, and to all the parents that contributed to the Bake Sale and volunteered their time. We hope that you had a wonderful time and created lasting memories with your friends, families, and school! The PTO has many more exciting events ahead and we could use your help! Please follow this link to our Volunteer Interest form,

“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.”

PTO “Reading is Magical” Read-A-Thon

The Read-A-Thon is one of our main fundraisers this year. Our only other fundraiser is the carnival in the spring. The best part of the Read-A-Thon is that 100% of the money collected will be used to support our school. The PTO sponsors purchasing library books, assemblies, enrichment programs, family movie nights, the theater program, and much more. November is National Family Literacy Month and it is our goal not just to raise funds but for kids and their families to find joy in reading alone and together. More information will be sent home with your child(ren) before and during the Read-A-Thon.

In addition there will be an active large group game option available for a 1/2 hour in the gym, as well as a 1/2 hr Bingo option offered in the library in support of our Readathon.  All FREE!  Come hang out and enjoy time with friends.
