School Bike Challenge

The first year of participation in the Olympia INTERcity Transit School Bike Challenge was a HUGE success! We had over 40 students complete and turn in bike logs and over 60 students ride their bikes on Bike to School Day in the beginning of May. We hope this challenge helped students and families realize how great riding a bike to get places can be. I look forward to next years events at McKenny. Future opportunities for joining other family friendly bike events are the Kidical Mass rides happening June 10th and August 26th at 11am from the Olympia Farmers Market. See you outside, Ms. Lloyd

School Arrival

Families, just a reminder that we do not have supervision before school or after school. We have noticed a number of students have been arriving too early. Teachers are in meetings and planning for their day. The gym is open by 8:45am. This is the soonest that students should arrive. Students should head home after school is out and not stop to play on the school equipment. This is for the safety of your child, unless you are present as a parent to supervise at the end of the day.

Student Meal Balances

End of the school year is fast approaching. Do you know your child's lunch account balance? All negative balances need to be paid in full by the end of the school year.

Remember to call the Attendance Line at 596-8403 to report any absences or late arrivals.
The office needs to know as soon as possible. This is a 24-hour recording phone line. Please feel free to call this number at any time that you are aware that your child will be late or absent.

Pencils for Sale

Don’t forget that we sell McKenny pencils in the office for .25¢

Spring Clothing

The warm weather is on its way (we are hopeful) so are the children’s desires to get into their spring and summer clothing. On warm days, children may wear shorts to school. We suggest that the shorts be mid-thigh in length, both for ease of movement and for comfort when sitting on plastic chairs. We ask that all clothing be appropriate for school and not a distraction to the learning environment or to other students. Clothing with drug or alcohol slogans, or violence-related clothing, are not considered appropriate for school. Also, students should avoid shirts showing bare midriffs and backs. We also strongly recommend that children not wear open-toed shoes or sandals to school because of the risk of injury to the feet on our busy playground.

Teacher Assignment will be Posted on Family Access for the 2018-19 School Year!
Remember to sign up for Family Access so you are able to view your child’s teacher assignment for the 2018-19 school year. Family Access will be available to view your teacher assignment on Thursday, August 30st after 10:00am. If you need access to Family Access, please contact the office at (360) 596-8400 or the Olympia School District at (360) 596-6150.
