Attendance Matters!

Research shows that consistent, on-time attendance in elementary school creates a lifelong pattern of punctuality and investment all throughout a student's school career and later for on the job. As a parent or guardian, please do everything you can to be certain your student(s) arrives on time and ready-to-learn each day. The best arrival time each morning is between 8:45 and 8:55 (There is no supervision before 8:45.)

Sending Money to School

Make sure the check or envelope is clearly marked with your child’s name, teacher’s name, amount (if cash) and indicate what the money is for (field trip, lunch, etc.) so that we can direct the check or cash to the correct person. Please send the exact amount. The office does not have petty cash to make change.

Planned Absence Request Form

Remember, if you are going on vacation or on a trip, please complete a Planned Absence Request form. These forms are available in the office or call us and we will send one home with your student.

PTO Movie Night

Our first Movie Night of the year is always a big hit!  This year it will be on Friday 10/4!  Please look for a flyer to come home with your student in the near future to purchase admission up front.  The movie will be Secret Life if Pets:2. Doors open at 6:15pm and it goes until 8pm. Tickets are $5 for the first child and $4 for each additional child. Please also visit our PTO website at http://www.mckennypto.org/movie-night.html to get the flyer and other details info if your student doesn't come home with one!

PTO Fall FUNDrive

Our Fall FUNDrive in cooperation with Lacey Value Village is scheduled for Saturday, 10/5.  Value Village offers a fundraiser for local charities. This year Value Village has had a change in their process. We now will collect everything OFF SITE (at McKenny play shed) and then transport it all at once to the Lacey Value Village to make our donation.  Value Village weighs all the "soft goods" and pays our charity .25 cents per pound for them, and .05 cents per pound for hard goods.  Your student will bring home a flyer with additional details.  If you have a large truck or trailer and are interested and available Saturday 10/5 at 2pm to help caravan all the donations to the Lacey location, we would appreciate your help!  Contact Marny at 360-280-3806 or [email protected] with questions or to help volunteer on 10/5.  We will also collect at the school on Friday 10/4 before Movie Night. Please visit this website for more details: https://fundrive.savers.com/e/mckennyptodropoff_4

PTO Box Tops Collection and Class Competition

Our first collection of Box Tops happens Friday, October 18th. Look for a flyer to be sent home the first week of October. Start clipping box tops with an expiration date. Please remember to gather up all those box tops you may have at home (or at friends/families homes) and send them in with your student. There is a collection bag in each classroom or they can be left in the PTO mail box in the school's office.  October's classroom reward will be ice cream!

Please download the new Box Top App and scan receipts for all box tops (both clips with an expiration and new "scan receipt" clips).

NEW GIVE CREDIT - When you scan a receipt there is a star credit button on the bottom of the screen. Please type in the teacher you would like to give the credit to and those points will be added into the classroom total.

PTO Facebook Random Drawing for Shoparoo Users

Sign up or KEEP using the Shoparoo App to raise funds for McKenny PTO by using this smart phone app where you snap photos of your shopping receipts. In order to help encourage staff and families at McKenny to utilize this app, we are having a facebook contest and will have a random drawing from those who participated on 10/5 (Value Village drop off day) for some McKenny prizes and a gift card!! Check out McKenny Hawks PTO on Facebook!

PTO Volunteer Needs

Thanks to all who have signed up to volunteer for PTO events and as classroom representatives! We are still in need of additional volunteers and co-chairs for Apple Tree Productions, Staff Appreciation and other events coming up soon. In addition, these classrooms need Parent Representatives to assist with parent communications, coordinating activities, and classroom support:

Preschool – Bailey, Partridge

Kindergarten – Stanley

1st Grade – Johnson, Woods

2nd Grade – Womac

5th Grade – Bremner, Espedal-Johnson

If you are able to help please fill out the Volunteer Form in the PTO packet that went home earlier this month or online here http://www.mckennypto.org/how-you-can-help.html or contact Volunteer Coordinator, Michel Nelson, (360) 489-8118or [email protected].

PTO Yearbook Photos

Start thinking early about yearbook photos!  As you are at school events with your child(ren) (Ice Cream Social, First Day photos, field trips, Movie Nights, classroom events, box tops parties, International Night, etc.) please remember to take pictures and save them for yearbook submission.  It is our hope that by next month, we will have a site or email address where they can be sent for monthly collection. This will be a tremendous help to our yearbook committee members if we can get in the habit of doing this throughout the year.  Also, it's not too early for those with fifth graders to think about which baby photos you might want to submit we get them included in this annual tradition.  If you would like to help with the yearbook, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator referenced above.

PTO Hawk’s Harvest

Your PTO is working on a simple Fall celebration - Hawk’s Harvest will happen on Friday 10/18 from 6:30 - 8pm. Volunteers needed for set up and clean up as well as throughout the event.
